About EPP

The Eviction Prevention Project (EPP) is a collaboration between Community Justice & Mediation Center (CJAM), Indiana Legal Services-Bloomington Office, District 10 Pro Bono Project, Justice Unlocked (2019-2021), SCIHO-South Central Indiana Housing Opportunities (2019-2022) and the Judges that preside over Monroe County small claims eviction and damages proceedings.

Our project offers free legal information and limited legal advice, mediation services and referrals to local social services agencies and housing navigation resources to Monroe County, Indiana residents facing eviction.

EPP began providing services at Monroe County eviction damages hearings in June 2019 as a pilot project with SCIHO’s Housing Navigator program, CJAM’s Landlord-Tenant mediators, IU Maurer Law School’s TAP-Tenant Assistance Project and Justice Unlocked. In response to COVID-19 pandemic closures and Indiana’s state-wide moratorium on eviction proceedings that ended August  14, 2020, EPP established an Intake Line with services provided either telephonically or remote via zoom. Monroe County initial eviction and damages hearings have continued to be conducted remotely over zoom since that time.

Our work is solely grant funded. Our thanks to the following for their financial support:

Bloomington Township Trustee, Community Development Block Grant-CV, Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County, Inc., Jack Hopkins Social Services Committee, United Way of Monroe County and the City of Bloomington Digital Equity Grant.
